Student Instructors – News Literacy + Digital Storytelling

The Montana Media Lab is hiring student instructors for its News Literacy and Audio Storytelling initiative. This program gives high school students the skills they need to to tell audio stories about their communities, and navigate the media landscape.

Instructors will be employed for 16 full days between November 15 2022 and January 15 2023, including 6-8 days of travel around the Missoula region. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching audio storytelling and news literacy to high school students in rural and Indigenous communities in the Missoula region.
  • Developing and implementing news literacy and audio storytelling curriculums including news literacy presentations for communities.
  • Documenting outreach efforts  through photos, audio and video for promotional use.

Qualifications: 

Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students pursuing journalism, communications, education, Native American studies or a related field. Applicants should have teaching experience, audio reporting and editing skills; and/or experience working in underrepresented communities.

Compensation:

$20 per hour
