Haven Sager

Youth Voices Intern

Haven (she/her) is a recent University of Montana graduate with bachelor’s degrees in journalism and criminology. Born and raised in Wilsall, Montana, she discovered her passion for writing in her high school English classroom. Throughout college, Haven gained experience across several areas of journalism, including broadcasting with KBGA, reporting for the Montana Kaimin, and feature writing for Mongabay and Montana Journalism Abroad. Outside of journalism, she enjoys playing basketball, hiking, and working with kids at the YMCA. Through her experiences at the University of Montana, Haven has developed a deep appreciation for the power of connection, communication, and curiosity. She is excited to share those values with Youth Voices students through the Montana Media Lab and believes that everyone has a story worth telling.

Abigail Stenkamp

Youth Voices Intern

Abi (she/her) is a University of Montana undergraduate journalism student with a minor in media arts. She was born and raised in Boise, Idaho. Abi writes for the Montana Kaimin, manages intramural sports social media accounts, plays on the women’s lacrosse team and is an active member of Delta Gamma. Through all of these programs, she has developed an understanding of how individuals can make an impact in their communities. Abigail hopes to spark the flame of tenacity towards journalism in Youth Voices students and give them the tools to tell stories within their communities.

Lotus Porte-Moyel

Youth Voices Program Coordinator

Lotus (she/they) is a journalism and musical theatre graduate from the University of Montana. Now, they work alongside the Lab’s leadership to review and adapt the Youth Voices program, prepare for workshops and events, and write blurbs to keep the public in the know about what the Lab is up to. Outside of MML, you can find Lotus making audio stories, playing music, and building puppets.

Mary Auld

Director

Mary Auld (she/her) is a teacher and journalist in Missoula. She makes radio stories about human-environment interactions. Her work has been featured on public radio stations and in newspapers around Alaska and Montana. Mary has a master’s in environmental journalism from the University of Montana. Mary’s first pets were worms in the compost bin.

Maddie Jorden

Youth Voices Field Coordinator

Maddie is a graduate of UM’s environmental journalism program and a previous instructor of Youth Voices workshops. Before grad school, she spent seven years working in media on a Colorado cattle ranch where she dove deep into conservation, food production, and rural issues. In her free time, she is usually in the company of her dog, Newt, and her horse, Norman.
