SUMMARY:Storytelling for Podcasts
DESCRIPTION:This workshop focuses on non-fiction narrative shows – the documentary-style\, often serialized\, story-driven podcasts like Serial\, Missing Richard Simmons\, and Wind of Change that are known for telling expansive\, immersive stories. \n\nThis class will be most useful for audio producers who have some experience and the ambition to create a narrative podcast for the first time\, folks working in narrative who want to get geeky about craft\, and journalists from different mediums who would like to transition into narrative audio. If you’re not sure if it’s the right class for you\, don’t hesitate to reach out!\n\n\nThe best narrative stories leave listeners feeling like they’ve been on a journey\, and maybe even with a new perspective on the world. Creating a show like this is a little bit like building a house; it’s a complex\, multi-step undertaking that requires both technical skill and craft. This workshop focuses on the craft part – the ways podcasters paint scenes with words\, weave important history and context into plot\, build narrative structures that compel listeners to keep listening. In this workshop\, Instructor Lacy Roberts will deconstruct examples of well-crafted podcasts and look at just how the shows’ creators built great narrative structures. We’ll also talk about the process of creating a narrative show\, discuss what kinds of stories make good narrative podcasts\, and provide students with actionable next steps if they think they have a great show idea.\n*UM employees and UM School of Journalism students* enter coupon code GOGRIZ at checkout for 20% off registration. \nNOTE: Zoom link will be sent to all participants via email ahead of the workshop. \n \n  \nInstructor\nLacy Roberts\nPodcast Editor and Producer \n  \nFAQs\n\nWho is this workshop for?\nBeginning and intermediate audio creators\, and podcast enthusiasts\nWho is the instructor?\nLacy Roberts an independent podcast editor and producer based in Missoula\, Montana.
